Maya is a belly dancing move which involves
moving one hip at a time, up and over in an arch (like the McDonalds
“M”) to the side of the body.
Maya is also a Sanskrit word and belief system
meaning illusion or mirage….
It is the way we perceive our world according to our egos. Ego
prevents us from knowing our true loving nature by distracting us
with feelings of fear and inadequacy and attachment to the ‘material
world’. We think the world is out there and we are in here, that
life as it is, is all there is. Through Belly Dancing we realise
that our life can be so much more than our egos allow, just as we
can dance better than we could ever imagine. We are in the dance of
life, of the dance of life, and creating the dance of life as we go
along.
Belly Dancing is natural to all women, all we
need to do is to show our body, mind and soul the way past the
illusion and allow ourselves to let go of inhibitions, fear and ego
and to dance with love and light…
