Rebecca De Schryver

Rebecca starts her dance studies in ballet at the age of four in Belgium, where she is born. Her professional career begins already eight years later in ‘Het Stedelijk Instituut voor Ballet’, of Antwerp, the school of ‘The Royal Ballet of Flanders’.

She continues her formation in jazz, modern dance (Cunningham, Graham), claquets, folclore, contemporary dance and flamenco.

Complementing her dance career she works as an international model and finishes her studies in ‘History of Art’ with a thesis on Butoh-dance.

Rebecca was first captivated by the art of Oriental Dance when she moved to Spain and found her true passion in it.

Since 2001 she dedicates her time exclusively to this beautiful art.

In 2003 she coincides with Natalia Blasi in a workshop of Farida Fahmy in Madrid, where the idea of the creation of the Company ‘Alambiq’ was born.

The goal of Alambiq is to reach the essence of oriental dance without the renunciation of a proper input.

They performed in Barcelona, Tarragona and provinces. They participated in cultural events such as ‘The Forum of Barcelona 2004’, in acts of professionals of oriental dance and in popular happenings of different character.

In the mean while she continues to refine her technique with various masters, above all Farida Fahmy, who reveals the possibility of intelligence, sensibility and movement in oriental dance.

She receives the title of Estoda (Essential technique of Oriental Dance) of Yasmin al Ghazali and Said el Amir.

On demand of various cultural centres and dance schools she shares her experience and tries to motivate other girls in dancing.

Therefore she feels also the necessity to enrich her knowledge and skills in the art by staying current with all developments and innovations.

It seems a fantastic and unique opportunity to participate in the ‘Seminar for Teachers and Professional Dancers’ in Cairo, Egypt, and work with the master of Masters Mahmoud Reda and the magnificent Farida Fahmy during a whole week.
