Raheesha,
teaches weekly Middle Eastern Dance classes in Somerset, England however,
her dance career has taken her further afield. It was while living in
Morocco in 1988 that she fell in love with the dance, and soon after
moving to the United States her dance career took off.
Several
highlights include dancing at the newly-opened Aladdin Hotel and Casino in
Las Vegas and at the Atlantis Casino in Reno Nevada as well as winning
first prize in the UK Eastern Promise dance competition in February 2002.
Raheesha,
The American-born dancer has proved not only to be an entertaining dancer
but popular instructor as her classes at the 2002 Glastonbury Dance
Festival completely sold out within days of going on line. She has also
taught at the Middle Eastern Dance Festival in Leicester hosted by Maria
de Silva and Yasmin Asar's South Coat Med Fest in Wimborne and she is
scheduled to teach at the UK Majma 2007 festival.
Raheesha
has performed at festivals such as Rakassha in Oakland California, the
Desert Dance Festival in Phoenix, Arizona, Majma and International Dance
Festivals in Glastonbury as well as the Desert Flowers show in Salisbury
and the Chance to Dance and Middle Eastern Dance Showcase at Pontadarwe,
Wales and guest dancer at MADN's spring platform 2005. She has also danced
on stage with the Nile Band, the American band Light Rain and with
Celloman, who played the last three years at the world famous Glastonbury
and WOMAD Festivals.
Dancing professionally for nearly a decade Raheesha heads a dance
troupe in the UK called the Desert Divas.
She describes her dance style as “a fusion of styles".
“I love the freedom of the gypsy dance, the control of Egyptian style, and
the flamboyance of the Turkish movements. Middle Eastern Dance has helped
me to unleash my "inner diva" and it's a joy to watch this emerge from my
students.”
Raheesha teaches a wide range of styles and is available for
historical and motivation lectures as well as public performances.
