Danseuse, chorégraphe et professeur de danse orientale et marocaine à Paris, Nawal nourrit son amour pour la danse depuis son enfance. Détentrice d’un grand héritage culturel, familial et national, elle est un trait d’union artistique entre le Maghreb et le Machreq. Nawal est profondément inspirée par l’effervescence artistique des années cinquante au Caire, par l’évolution moderne de la danse orientale aujourd’hui, et aussi par la richesse de la danse de son propre Pays, le Maroc.  Nawal enseigne la danse orientale et marocaine à Paris depuis 1989. Elle s’emploie aussi à essaimer son art à travers les stages de danse qu’elle anime à Paris, en province et à l’étranger ( Maroc, U.S.A, Europe..) Elle a créé l’association de danse orientale « Les Amis de Nawal » en 1990, et fondé sa compagnie « Nawal BENABDALLAH » en 1991. La rencontre avec le grand chorégraphe égyptien Mahmoud REDA en 1991 est le début d’une étroite collaboration de dix années de travail. La pédagogie et le style de ce Maître rejoignent son idéal dans l’enseignement de cet art. En son hommage, elle a présenté à Paris, en région parisienne et au Maroc, son spectacle «MEMOIRES», articulé autour de l’Egypte de l’Andalousie et du Maroc. En 1997 Nawal a participé au Caire, avec la TROUPE REDA, à divers spectacles et tournages.

Pour son répertoire marocain, Nawal s’inspire des danses des différentes régions du Maroc pour les faire évoluer sur scène, et participe ainsi à la conservation de ce riche patrimoine. Elle a présenté son spectacle « AUTOUR DE L’ATLAS » à l’Institut du Monde Arabe de Paris, à l’occasion de la Journée de la Femme en 1994.

A l’occasion de « L’ANNEE DU MAROC EN FRANCE » la compagnie a présenté :

En coproduction avec le théâtre parisien « Le Divan du Monde » la création « LE DERNIER MOUSSEM » : spectacle de deux heures de danse marocaine et orientale présenté du 22 au 30 décembre 1999 et du 14 au 23 décembre 2000 au Divan du Monde à Paris. Quatre spectacles de danse marocaine pour le Conseil Général des Hauts-de-Seine lors de la tournée en France du Chœur d’enfants de Rabat. Avec des extraits du « Dernier Moussem », la compagnie a participé au « Salon Internationale de la Danse » à Paris en octobre 2000. Nawal a souvent été invitée sur des plateaux de télévision marocains et français et a réalisé 2 créations en 1999 et 2000 pour France 2 lors de l’émission « Vivement Dimanche » présentée par Michel DRUCKER en l’honneur d’Elisabeth GUIGOU, et de Dominique Strauss Khan. Elle a dansé et enseigné au Festival Internatinal du Caire « Ahlan wa sahlan » de 2002 à 2005

Nawal a créé le premier Festival de Danse International « L’Orient de la Danse » à Paris  en 2004, la deuxième édition de ce festival a eu lieu en avril 2006. Lors de ces deux festivals, la compagnie Nawal Benabdallah a présenté ses 2 créations chorégraphiques « Nuit Etoilée » et «  Fil d’Or » avec la participation de la compagnie Virginia Wa Nour al Ayoun de Miami et des danseurs d’Espagne.

NAWAL BENABDALLAH

Nawal is a dancer, choreographer and teacher of Moroccan oriental dance and she nourishes her love for the dance since childhood. Her cultural, national and family inheritance is great, and she is a true artistic link between North Africa and East. She is deeply inspired by the artistic effervescence of the fifties’ in Cairo, as well as by the modern development of the oriental dance today and by the richness of the dance in her own country, Morocco. Since 1992, Nawal teaches Moroccan oriental dance in Paris. She also devotes herself to spreading her art through the dance training courses that she leads in Paris, in the countryside and abroad (Morocco, U.S.A. and Europe). She created the oriental dance association “Les Amis de Nawal” (“The Friends of Nawal”) in 1990, and she founded her company “Nawal BENABDALLAH” in 1991. Her meeting with the great Egyptian choreographer Mahmoud Reda in 1991was the beginning of a close collaboration between them for ten years. The pedagogy and the style of this master resembled her own ideal in teaching this art. In order to pay tribute to him, she presented her show “Memoires” both in Paris, in the Parisian region and in Morocco. “Memoires” was centred on Egypt, Andalusia and Morocco. In 1997, she participated in a number of shows and film shootings together with the Reda Troupe in Cairo.To create her Moroccan repertoire, she gets inspiration from dances from different Moroccan regions and she lets them develop on stage, thus participating in conserving this rich patrimony. In 1994, on the occasion of Women’s Day, she presented her show “Autour de l’Atlas” (“Around the Globe”) at the
Institute of the Arab World in Paris.

Nawal has often been invited to Moroccan and French television and in 1999 and  2000 she made 2 creations for France 2 in the TV show “Vivement Dimanche”, presented by Michel Drucker in the honour of Elisabeth Guigou, and Dominique Starsskan. She danced and taught at the « Ahlan Wa Sahlan » International Cairo Festival from 2002 to 2005. She created the first International Dance Festival  "L’Orient de la Danse" in Paris  in 2004. The second edition of this festival took place in April 2006. During these two festivals, Nawal Benabdallah Company presented its two choreographic creations « Nuit Etoilée » and «  Fil d’Or » with the participation of the Virginia Wa Nour al Ayoun Company from Miami and dancers from Spain.
