Charlotte

In February 1994, Charlotte gained a professional business qualification (CIS). She has subsequently also successfully trained as a Reiki Master, Aroma therapist, Reflexologies and in Indian Head massage. She runs healing workshops for women using her belly dancing as the basic tool. She has researched dance and movement therapy in order to gain a greater understanding of the amazing healing features of so many of the movements that are found in belly dance.

Charlotte was first captivated by the art of Belly Dancing in 1989 when she stumbled upon an ad for belly dancing classes. She thought that it might be a more interesting alternative to gym or jogging, so the shy and self-conscious accountant decided to investigate this "daring option". Despite her inhibitions, she was a "natural" and very soon found herself dancing professionally. These introductory lessons at Catherine's home studio provided some insight into the basics of the Turkish style of Belly Dancing but, more importantly, it provided Charlotte with the initial exposure that she needed.

Her journey of true and authentic discovery was soon to start. Shortly afterwards, she was approached by an Egyptian owned company and offered a sponsorship to travel and explore her newfound passion in the land of its origin. She returned from Egypt invigorated and eager to share her insights with a fledgling South African belly dance community. She remembers being terrified before each performance, dreading the spotlight but nevertheless determined not to let her reticence get the better of her. The amazing transformation in this extraordinary dancer is patently obvious. Belly dancing, unmistakably, changed her life.

Charlotte has subsequently danced in many different parts of the world. From the Comoros, Egypt and India to Los Angeles, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, she has been involved in many corporate events, launches, restaurant functions, competitions, stage productions and diplomatic receptions. In the year 2000, Charlotte and three dancers from her Jewels of the Nile dancing studio, which she formed in 1998, won two gold medals and a trophy at the World Performing Arts Championships in Los Angeles.

So what sets Charlotte apart from the rest? Perhaps it is her belief that we are all on earth to learn from one another and to share our life energies. The Jewels are taught to dance from their souls and thereby express a pure feminine energy. Each Jewel is encouraged to allow the Goddess within to be released in a graceful and self-fulfilling way.
